CommentsI was one of the REMF, commo guy in Bangkok, Vientiane, Long Binh and then Saigon. Appreciate your site. Lots of thought provoking material. Good Job.
CommentsHaven't dropped back by for a while -- site is SUPER!!! Just to refresh, I was with the 185th MT BN in Long Binh Oct '69 to Oct '70. I was a Shop Officer/XO with the 378th MSCO for 8 months and the Battalion S-4 for the last 4. Spent 70-71 at APG, MD and then in Reserves until '86. Would really like to hear from someone else in the unit. I've been looking at the web map of LBP and can't recall exactly where the 378th billets and shops were. Can anybody help? God bless all my brother REMFs and God bless all our brothers in Iraq & Afghanistan.
CommentsI just spent the past 2 hours reading your words. THANK YOU. I enlisted in the Army in 1975 for the ASA. I went on active duty May 29,75 so I'm not considered a Vietnam Vet. Thats okay. I ended up spending 20 years and 30 days in the Army. Been retired now for 10 years. I was orinally suppose to be a non-voice interceptor but screwed up my hearing test so ended up being in supply. My first and only ASA assignment was 7th RRFS Ramasun Station. I was there for only 4-6 months when word came for all military operations in Thailand were to cease. As an 18 year old wet behind the ears Army private, Thailand was an education, something I still vividly remember today and would love to go back to see to the remains of the station. Incidently, when I left in April/May 76, there were only about 50 folks left at the station. Leading up to that time, we supply and warehouse pesonnel helped to clear out the Ops building. Everything shipped out ended up sitting on the ramp at Clark AFB. Looking back, we left a lot of good people behind in SA. In Thailand, a lot of local nationals depended on us and our government let them down. I will never forget the young Thai gentleman name Alex(his American name) who worked for the USO at the station. His life and future was pretty much destroyed by our closing down. I can also state that I too probably have a son or daughter by a tee-loc in Thailand, I don't know... But thank you for your insight and thoughts. we MUST NEVER let the politicians and news media run a war again, but I fear that is exactly what is happening today. Anyway, THANKs.

CommentsGreat site, Robert. It's been awhile since I last visited. Your site probably deserves a 10 but nobody's perfect. You are linked from my website: http://www.billfields.org/utapao/index.html If you find the time to review my site, I would appreciate any comments or suggestions. Thanks from another Viet-REMF.
CommentsLooking for troopers who served with C Company 725th Maintenance Battalion on Chu Chi in 1968-69. Also, looking for David Granger who was there at that time.
Comments10/20/2005: I was a Staff Sgt. and flightline supervisor at Phan Rang, 35th AMS Comm/Nav shop from May, 1970-June,1971. Was searching for some of my old buddies who also served with me during that time. I first came across my Squadron Commander, Col. Chuck Bailey's website some time back but am now unable to open it. Anyone in the Nav shop reading this, drop me an e-mail. I now live in Gainesville, Florida and serve as the County Safety Officer. I retired, as a Safety Officer, from the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs in March, 1995. I loved the good time at the Bamboo Viper NCO Club on the hill and the good times the 'Happy Valley Square and Compass Club' had visiting the orphanage in Phan Rang City. Let me know if you're out there. Would like to hear from some old friends. Sandy
CommentsLooking for anyone who served in the 128th Signsl from 1965 -1966 in Cam Ranh Bay. Also anyone who served in Avel North at Nha Trang from 1966 - 1969, Or anyone who served at Avel North in Qui Nhon in 1967 - 1968, or anyone who served in Avel South in Vung Tau in 1971 - 1972.
CommentsI was with the 79th Mt Bn 3/71-4/72. I think the HEMCO was part of the Battalion. There was a LEMCO there too. I think it was the 527th, but I'm not sure. I was a clerk at BN HQ and was there for the Eastertide Offensive. Any info would be appreciated.
CommentsIn March of 1968,I was a photo tech. with the 11th TRS at Udorn. A buddy of mine and I decided to go to down to Khumphawapi on a bicycle trip as we were informed that Singha was cheaper there than in Udorn. We peddled away from the base and coasted into Ramasan to fill up our canteens and stock up on candy bars and then proceeded on to Kumphawapi. On The main road about a half hour away from the town, we were buzzed several times by a Thai Air Force O-1 Bird Dog. On the last pass, the pilot set his plane right down in front of us on the highway. No traffic, fortunately. At this point, the highway bi-sected a small village with a noodle shop on the side of the road. The pilot cut his engine and coasted up to the noodle stand. As we coasted by in disbelief, he emerged from the aircraft and motioned us over to join him for lunch. We got our beer and some kwaitiow a little sooner than expected. Turned out this pilot spoke fluent English and took his initial pilot trainning in Santa Monica, Calif.

CommentsWell done Brother.
CommentsOne of your previous guest spoke with much venom about those of us in the rear being classified as Viet Nam veterans. I spend a year at U-Tapao (68-69)doing the same thing the guys in Vietman were doing and that was taking orders from my superiors and getting the job done. I don't know how many lives my actions in Thailand saved by making sure the B52's were able to take-off without delay to hit enemy targets or kill VC on the HCM trail. Many of us volunteered to serve in 'Nam but through no control of our own were sent where needed and even though we weren't happy about our PCS we still got the job done. So do I classify myself as a Vietnam veteran-well my DD214-an official government document says yes-no other comment is needed.
CommentsI was Air Force 1968-1988. Served at Korat Apr 70-Apr 71, TDY to Ubon 72, TDY to Takhli Jan 73-Jun 73 then PCS to Takhli Aug 73-Aug 74. I like your take on REMF. When we came back to the States, the protesters did not differentiate between us guys coming back from Thailand or the guy next to me who was coming back from DaNang. As long as you wore the uniform you were treated the same.

CommentsVery Good web-site. I was stationed at U-Tapao, 4258th SW, as a B-52 Crew Chief 69 - 70. Check out the U-Tapao Alumni web-site at www. utapao.org. Hope to hear from other U-T vets
CommentsMy belief is that if you raised your right hand, took the oath and served honorably you have my respect. Causes and circumstances took over on your service to our great Country. Having said that I really enjoyed your take on REMF. Keep up the good work.
CommentsThis is an interesting website,, I really liked it. cogratulations Robert Wheatley, thank you for your help in my project....
CommentsCan't remember if I signed in here before or not. I have just published a new book on Vietnam. It is entitled 'REMF "War Stories" 17th CAG - Nha Trang, Vietnam - 1969.' You can preview or purchase the book by googling my name or the title and taking a link. Also would like to contact anyone who served with me in HHC 17th CAG in 1969 (Pat Cosgrove, Eddie Sizzler, Pete Jurgel, Bill Sykes, Ronnie Shirley).

CommentsThis site is like awesome, greatest site ever! God bless you Brother!
CommentsLove the site, and all it stands for. I served during the latter part of the "Vietnam Era". I joined the Army at 17 in Nov 1971 and was not able to join the forces deployed to Vietnam and other areas because of my age. I worked with many who had returned from not only Vietnam, but also Laos and Cambodia. I invite you and your guests to visit our site and add your names to our Veterans Wall of Honor. Also, take a look at the "Star" and emblem we created especially for Veterans. Our way of saying thanks for your service to this great nation. We have also started a new campaign as a tribute and thanks to our troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan called "Prayers for Water in the Desert". You can see more details on our "Memorial Project" page. If you would like to particiapate and have your organization or family on the inside of the labels please contact me. Contact information is on the website. www.bluestarsforsafereturn.com Thanks for providing this site to the veterans who served in the rear, it provides at least some recognition of a job well done. CommentsI was with the 17th CAG for the year of 1969 and in Nha Trang. I have just completed a book called REMF "War Stories" that may be purchased in about a month at lulu.com. Hope to run into some of the old friends I had during that year - and maybe even sell a few books.

CommentsI was browsing around and found this web site. I thought I might say hello to everyone and welcome everyone home who made it back and God Bless thoes who did not. It seems I have come out of my shell after about 30 years trying to remember all that went down in 1969 and 70 in Chu Chi and Chu Lai with the Hornets in the Mule Skinner's.
